The film directed by Priyadarshan from the Tamil anthology film Navarasa has been widely criticized. Priyadarshan's Summer of 92 has been criticized for being racist. Summer 92 was based on the humor of the New Year. Musician T M Krishna and director Leena Manimegala criticized the film for its casteist approach.

 
T M Krishna tweeted that the film is insensitive and there is nothing to laugh about it. His Tweet reads; "Hasyam in #navarasa is truly disgusting, insensitive, casteist and body shaming. Nothing to laugh about. We cannot make films like this in 2021 Just not done!" Manimegala said that Netflix, Priyadarshan, and Mani Ratna have done a dirty thing. Manimegala added that Netflix makes films featuring blacks, tribals, and other racist groups in the US, and is promoting racism when it came to India.
 
She added that watching 'Netflix' 'Brahmin games' in India shows that BlackLiveSmater politics is just a farce. Leena Manimegala's response was via Twitter.
 
"All your #BlackLivesMatter politics you do in Amerikas is a farce when you play a brahmin in Indias @NetflixIndia @netflix #NavarasaFilms;" she Tweeted.
 
The much-anticipated nine-film anthology Navarasa launched on Netflix on Friday, August 6. Mani Ratnam and Jayendra Panchapakesan collaborated on the Tamil film. Director Mani Ratnam and Jayendra Panchapakesan bankroll the anthology film. Individual filmmakers direct each episode.
