Sukesh Shetty’s Directorial Debut Dooradarshana Will Have A TV As A Focal Character

The directorial debut of director Sukesh Shetty, Doordarshana, featuring Pruthvi Ambaar and newcomer Pavitra, promises to transport viewers back to the time of box television. Even a special song honoring the old-fashioned big stupid box will be performed.

“Televisions defined the 80s and 90s era across India. This film is set in 1986, in a small village in the Western Ghats, when harikathas and street plays were popular. The arrival of the TV changes the landscape of the village. Television is akin to a character in the film,” Sukesh explains. “Back in the day, in villages, only one or two homes had TV sets. It was a luxury not all could afford. Villagers would gather in a neighbor’s house to watch TV. Initially, it was a matter of pride, but later it started getting on the nerves of TV owners as their privacy was being invaded daily. Often, the owners refrained from cooking their favorite dishes as they would have had to serve these ‘unwanted’ guests too! It was very inconvenient. Our special song delves into this. It is like a story in itself,” Sukesh shares. Vijay Prakash provided the vocals for the upbeat tribute song. It was written by Kantara's song Karma author Trilok Trivikram. Vasuki Vaibhav handled the music composition. “The film is a love story, with action sequences and various commercial elements. A visual treat, Dooradarshana talks about a joint family, and how the equation changes within the family after the arrival of the TV. There are several nostalgic programs. Programs like Ramayana and Chitra Manjari resonate with the audience,” he concludes.
