Suriya and filmmaker Bala reunited after a decade for the upcoming film Vanangaan. Since the movie's first announcement earlier this year, there have been high expectations for it. It has now been revealed that Suriya declined to participate in the movie. Yes, the actor won't be a part of Vanangaan, director Bala stated in a statement.
Director Bala stated, "The official statement released by Bala read, I wanted to direct Vanangaan with my younger brother, Suriya. However, after a few changes in the story, I wasn’t sure if the project was suitable for someone like him.” He also added, “Suriya had complete trust in me, but it was my duty, as an elder brother, to not put him in such a tricky situation. So, both Suriya and I have decided that it is in the best interests of everyone involved that he should opt out of the project. In fact, Suriya was very upset about this decision, but this is done for the greater good of my brother."
Bala also stated that he plans to rejoin Suriya in the future. “The Suriya that I saw in Nandha; the Suriya that you saw in Pithamagan, we both will get together something similar at the right time, for sure.” Vanangaan will continue without Suriya, as stated by the director. It remains to be seen who will play the new lead role in Bala's film as a result.
There were rumours that Suriya and Bala's movie was shelved in May, and they lit up the internet. The actor, however, shot off the rumours by posting a behind-the-scenes photo from the set. Suriya, who usually doesn't pay much attention to rumours, for the first time impliedly denied the claims and stated that he was looking forward to returning to the set.
Vanangaan was one of the most anticipated Tamil films because it marked Suriya and Bala's first blockbuster collaboration in two decades. The actor had previously received superhit movies from the filmmaker, including Nandha (2001) and Pithamagan (2003). Suriya's career received a much-needed break thanks to Bala's Nandha.
Suriya's 2D Entertainment, which served as the production company for Vanangaan when it was first announced, will no longer finance Bala's movie either. The movie's female protagonist is played by Krithi Shetty, and GV is working as the soundtrack composer.
