Ever since the draft Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill 2021 was made available to the public, many filmmakers across the country have called out the bill, which aims at curtailing freedom of expression. According to the bill, the Center has the right to re-examine the Censor Board of Film Certification's (CBFC) decision and pull a film out of the theatres if they feel it is against the country's integrity or sovereignty. Kamal Haasan, Vetri Maaran, and several other filmmakers slammed the Cinematograph Bill 2021 stating that it curtails the freedom of filmmakers.
