Suriya, Karthik Subbaraj And Prakash Raj Slam Cinematograph Bill 2021

Ever since the draft Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill 2021 was made available to the public, many filmmakers across the country have called out the bill, which aims at curtailing freedom of expression. According to the bill, the Center has the right to re-examine the Censor Board of Film Certification's (CBFC) decision and pull a film out of the theatres if they feel it is against the country's integrity or sovereignty. Kamal Haasan, Vetri Maaran, and several other filmmakers slammed the Cinematograph Bill 2021 stating that it curtails the freedom of filmmakers.

Suriya joined the bandwagon and wrote, "A law is to protect the freedom of expression, not to strangle the voice of everyone. #cinematographact2021 #FreedomOfExpression. Today's the last day, go ahead and file your objections !! (sic)." Similarly, Jagame Thandhiram director Karthik Subbaraj wrote, Suriya and Karthik Subbaraj condemned the bill and urged everyone to sign their petition as today (July 2) is the last day.
