Taapsee and director Anubhav Sinha didn't want to make Thappad on excessive domestic violence

Actress Taapsee Pannu is kickstarting 2020 with her first release of the year, Thappad. Directed by Anubhav Sinha, this film is all set to hit the screens on the 28th of this month. Thappad deals with the concept of domestic violence and comes with the statement that a husband cannot slap his wife even once. A few sections of people opined that the film should have chosen excessive domestic violence as the topic rather than a slap. But Taapsee defends their decision by saying that they deliberately didn't want to be a film about excessive domestic violence as many upper-middle-class people say that these acts don't happen at their households.

Speaking in an interview, Taapsee revealed that the idea of Thappad came up when she was promoting one of her earlier films, Mulk, which was also directed by Anubhav Sinha. At that time, Taapsee told Anubhav that she wants to make a film on domestic violence. Then, the director came up with the script of Thappad and the Pink actress gave her nod to it immediately. Taapsee also said that she felt claustrophobic while shooting for this film. It took her 30 days to come out of it. Finally, Taapsee came out of that zone by taking a break from the work.
