Taika Waititi is now at the helm of two Netflix shows based on Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate factory.

Netflix has some exciting news for Taika Waititi fans this week. Earlier last night the streaming network announced that Taika Waititi is going to direct two shows based on Roald Dahl's beloved 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.'

Taika Waititi recently also won at the Oscars for his work in JoJo Rabbit. Waititi is the first Mauri person to ever win an academy award. Jojo Rabbit was a satirical take on the second world war and Waititi wrote and directed the film. Waititi also appeared as Hitler in the film. Jojo Rabbit was well received by both critics and fans.

Some of Taika Waititi's other famous films include Thor Ragnarok and What we do in the shadows. What we do in the shadows is an Australian satire on vampires and also pushed Waititi in the bigger limelight.

The upcoming series on 'Charlie and The Chocolate Factory' is said to take inspiration from Gene Wilder's 1971 portrayal of the story. The film will also take inspiration from Johnny Depp's iconic role as Willy Wonka in the 2005 film.

According to various sources, the first of the two shows will be directly adapted from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory novel. The second show will be based on the lives of Oompa Loompas. The Oompa Loompas are mythical figures who work at Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory in the books and multiple films.

Commenting on this future project Netflix said, "retain the quintessential spirit and tone of the original story while building out the world and characters far beyond the pages of the Dahl book for the very first time.”
