Taika Waititi says doing a Star Wars movie is like a career suicide.

Taika Waititi is currently riding the success of JoJo rabbit both with critics and fans. The director recently won an Oscar for his work in JoJo Rabbit.

Waititi rose to fame only recently in 2014 when he released a mockumentary titled 'What we do in the shadows.' The film instantly grabbed the attention of everyone and Marvel took notice. The director went on to direct Thor: Ragnarok which received praise for a change of tone. Thor: Ragnarok was funnier and a bigger success than previous Thor films. Waititi is also working towards directing the next Thor film, Thor: Love and Thunder.

Rumors also began about the director working with Disney to direct a Star Wars film in the future. Recently Waititi himself crushed this news saying, "I wish there was a better story, I’ll put it that way. Are there discussions about the Star Wars film? Like, yeah, I discussed with my friends in 1996 how cool Star Wars was. That’s what they’re going off. I think people see me hanging out with people, especially with Star Wars, and think I’m having some big discussions about it. I would f—ing love to."

The director went on to add "If it was right. I would want to do any kind of movie if it made sense, and if it felt not like career suicide."

At the same time, Waititi also answered questions about the live-action remake of Akira. The film's release got pushed back as it clashed with Thor: Love and Thunder. Waitati said, "I don’t know what I’m doing in f—ing two days...I think eventually it will happen. I’m just not sure if I’ll be doing it."
