One of the most notorious fairy tales in Kerala is that of Kalliyankatt Neeli. Neeli's story has been the subject of countless retellings and art forms. Music band Thaikkudam Bridge is preparing another musical version of this story.
Dhanya Suresh penned the lyrics for the song "Neeli," which is composed by Thaikkudam Bridge. The song is sung by Govind Vasantha. In the song, Pandit Vishwamohan Bhatt plays Mohan Veena. The video is directed by Naren Ajith. The video stars Simran Sivakumar, Vysakh Menon, Sanvi S. Shankar, Bhadra, Mukesh, and Shanu.
Thaikkudam Bridge unveils a rebellious Neeli through this music video. Neeli is a very free-spirited character. Neeli does not conform to patriarchal and reactionary gender norms and practices.
Instead, it questions and mocks society's denial of freedom to women. The video essentially cites Neetu K. Das's work, The Aphrodisiac Ghost of Kerala: Telling and Retelling Yakshi Tales.
Meanwhile, It is alleged that the famouse song in the film Kantara composed by Ajneesh Lokesh is a copy of Thaikkudam Bridge's song Navarasam. Thaikkudam Bridge was informed the other day that legal action would be taken in the matter. Later the song was removed from screening in the film. Some people have come forward against the Thaikkudam Bridge. They say that they have not seen the band for a long time, and when they get an opportunity, they make accusations to get attention. But the band has nothing to say about such accusations. "There is nothing to say about the critical comments coming against us. Because we know our children when we see them. We have to say whether it is our child or not. Everyone has freedom of expression, "said Thaikkudam Bridge.
