Anyone who saw the movie Ayyappanum Koshiyum will never forget Nanjiyamma. The song 'Kalakatha', sung by Nanjiyamma in the film directed by Sachi, was celebrated so much. This song and its singer were able to create a huge following on social media at one time.
The song fuelled the enmity and beats between Ayyappan and Koshi. With this, Nanjiyamma and Nanjiyamma's song got many fans.
Nanjiyamma's hometown is Attapadi. Nanjiyamma says that she became a world-famous singer through the movie Ayyappanum Koshiyum, but that was not the first song she sang.
"I sang in Vadivelu Sir's movie Kattu Diwali. but it was not released. After that, I stayed at home. Sachi Sir introduced me to the world. I am a shepherd. I told Sachi sir, that you should take me regardless of whether I sing wrong or right.
Sachi Sir said that I would not do anything wrong. Nanjiyamma Chechi, you will beat and break it. They liked that song very much. That song became a hit. Even after traveling around these fourteen districts, such a song has never come to me. It came in their movie," Nanjiyamma said.
The film, starring Prithviraj and Biju Menon, was produced by Ranjith and PM Sasidharan under the banner of Gold Coin Motion Pictures. The plot of the film revolved around the problems between Koshi, who retired after serving in the army, and Ayyappan Nair, the SI of Attapadi police station.
Most of the film was shot in Attapadi. The movie managed to achieve great success. This was the last film directed by Sachi.
