The court grants Masaba Gupta and Madhu Mantena’s divorce

Masaba Gupta, a well known Fashion Designer for the brand ‘House of Masaba’ and Madhu Mantena, a film producer who co-founded ‘Phantom Films’ are back in the headlines. Masaba herself is the daughter of Neena Gupta, a well known Indian film actress and Viv Richards, West Indies Cricketer. Madhu himself is from Hyderabad and a cousin of Ram Gopal Varma and was initially married to Nandana Sen (2002-2013), Amartya Sen’s daughter. Masaba and Madhu got engaged in 2015 and had a private ceremony.

However, the couple called it quits after three years of marriage and announced their separation in the month of August in 2018. The reasons for the same remain private, while they filed for divorce at Bandra Family Court in March 2019. There are media reports from Times of India that confirm that the couple received permission for divorce in September last year itself, however, there is no official confirmation for the same.

Masaba had recently taken to Twitter to address the news regarding her separation. The tweet read, “With a lot of sadness, Madhu and I have today decided to go on a trial separation in our marriage. We are not strong enough to explain ourselves to even friends who deserve answers from us. All we can say to each of them is to give us time and gives us love when we reach out to you. We now need a lot of it :)”

The couple released a joint statement to address the same, which read, “After much thought and consideration, we have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters. We have decided to move forward separately and get divorced. We are two individuals who respect and care for each other and have made our own choices. We would appreciate it if we are given our privacy at this time. Both of us have taken this decision after consulting professionals and our parents. The only thing we are ready to say right now is, what we both want out of life individually and separately is putting unnecessary pressure on the marriage and the love that we share. Hence we would take time off from each other and our marriage to figure out for ourselves what we want out of this life”.
