Director Adoor Gopalakrishnan reacts to "The Kashmir Files" controversy. The controversy began when Nadav Lapid, stated Kashmir Files of being propaganda. Nadav Lapid is the Chairman of the International Film Festival Jury.
Adoor Gopalakrishnan spoke at a programme held at the Delhi International Centre. The director responds by stating that films such as The Kashmir Files are inserted into theaters. "I have not seen the Kashmir files. It is a propaganda film;" said Adoor.
Adoor Gopalakrishnan says that it is suspected that such pictures are inserted into fairs to make someone happy. Meanwhile, jury chairman Nadav Lapid was criticized for the statement. But other jury members also came out in support of him.
They support Lapid's statement that Kashmir Files is a vulgar propaganda film. Fellow jurors took to Twitter to say that The Kashmir Files felt like a propaganda film. They added that it is an inappropriate film in the competition section of a prestigious film festival.
"There were 15 films in the international category, of which 14 achieved excellent quality. Movies also gave way to big discussions. But we were shocked and dismayed to see "The Kashmir Files," the 15th film in the competition category. It appeared to us to be a crude propaganda film. It felt like a propaganda film in the competition section of a prestigious film festival." Nadav Lapid stated at the closing session that he does not have any difficulty saying this publicly.
The joint statement of the other jurors makes it clear that Nadav Lapid's remarks were not personal. Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, The Kashmir Files is about the massacre and exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s.
