The Legend Of Maula Jatt To Not Have An India Release

The Legend of Maula Jatt, a Pakistani movie, will not release in India until further notice. The distributors have canceled the release and have not yet announced a new release date, an INOX official informed PTI.

The Legend of Maula Jatt, directed by Bilal Lashari stars Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan in the key roles. The film has been doing exceptionally well at international box offices. The movie has also garnered a lot of positive reviews.

"We have been informed by the distributors that the release of the film has been postponed. We were told this two-three days ago. No further date has been shared with us," a PTI report quoted an INOX official as saying.

The official added, “Zee Studios had acquired the rights of The Legend of Maula Jatt as they were expecting the film to do well. But because of the resistance from certain sections, the decision was made to not release the movie.”

The movie was up for a Friday release, as per the official Instagram account of the multiplex company PVR Cinemas. But the post was swiftly removed.

MNS leader Ameya Khopkar tweeted about the postponement of The Legend of Maula Jatt's release. He added, “Impact Of Raj Thackeray's Warning! After the warning given by MNS, the Pakistani film 'The Legend of Maula Jatt' screening has now been completely canceled. Not only in the state but also anywhere in the country, this film will not be released anymore.”

He added, “Again, if anyone has feelings of love for Pakistani artists, then this one warning is enough for them. Heartfelt congratulations to all my colleagues for this victory of the MNS movement.”

The Legend of Maula Jatt is a remake of the iconic classic Maula Jatt from 1979, which debuted on October 13 in Pakistan. It quickly rose to the position of the highest-grossing Pakistani movie ever.

Pakistani movies have premiered and are also adored in India, notably those by Mahira and Fawad. ZEE established the foundation for its following. It did so by bringing the Pakistani sitcom Humsafar to India. Both actors have appeared in hugely successful movies.

The last time a Pakistani movie was released theatrically in India was in 2011 with the release of Bol, starring Mahira. Before that, a few more had hit the screens, like Khuda Kay Liye and Ramchand Pakistani. Indian filmmakers made the decision to stop working with Pakistani artists following the Uri terror attacks in 2016.
