Supriya Menon, who was also a journalist, is one of the leading producers in Malayalam cinema. Supriya produced the recent movie Kuruthi starring Prithviraj. Supriya is now opening her mind about her favorite movies. Supriya’s response was in an interview with The Quint news channel.
“If asked about my favorite movies I would answer in a biased manner. I choose Prithviraj's movies in the easiest way. Would it be controversial?” Supriya said in the interview.
Supriya’s favorite films are Ayaalum Njanum Thammil, Mumbai Police, and Koode. Supriya said that Prithviraj played a role that mainstream heroes are reluctant to do in the Mumbai Police.
“Mumbai Police is a futuristic movie. Prithviraj’s portrayal of a gay cop in it was something that no mainstream hero at the time did. I also met my partner to some extent in Prithviraj’s Joshua Thomas in Koode. It also shows the talent of director Anjali Menon;” she added.
Supriya says that she is very happy that people accepted Kuruthi in the way it was meant to. She added that the film received appreciation in the way the crew and cast wanted it to be.
In the interview, Supriya said that as a woman producer in Malayalam cinema, she did not have many role models to follow. She added that Malayalam cinema is still somewhat male-dominated beyond the production sector.
