This is the relation between Cheliya movie and IAF pilot
Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidai (Cheliya in Telugu) is a film about an Indian Airforce Pilot morning played by Karthik. In the film, his jet is shot by Pakistan Army and he is held as a POW (Prisoner of War).
Now, you might wonder how this is related to the IAF pilot Abhinandan Varthaman. The film directed by Mani Ratnam was deeply researched so that there is authenticity while capturing the POW scenes.
Mani Ratnam sought help from Retd Air Marshall Simhakutty Varthaman, who is the father of IAF pilot Abhinandan Varthaman. He is being held by the Pakistan Army. The Indian Army has asked Pakistan to return him safely according to Geneva Conventions.
It is said that India has given one weeks time to return Abhinandan to India. If not, a war might break out between the two countries.
