Suriya's Soorarai Pottru skipped theatrical release and premiered on Amazon Prime Video last year. On the occasion of Diwali 2020, Soorarai Pottru was released on the OTT platform and received a lot of appreciation from critics and audiences across the country. In July 2021, Suriya announced the Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru with Abundantia Entertainment. Soon after the film's announcement, Guneet Monga's Sikhya Entertainment filed an injunction application against Soorarai Pottru Hindi remake saying that the film's rights partly lie with them. Now, Madras High Court has vacated the injunction.
Soorarai Pottru was jointly produced by 2D Entertainment and Sikhya Entertainment. The film is based on the novel Simply Fly, which follows the story of Air Deccan founder GR Gopinath. Sikhya contested saying that the novel's rights are with them. The case was heard by Madras High Court today, September 8. Suriya's counsel said that they paid a huge sum in the acquisition of Simply Fly and the film itself. Hence Madras High Court vacated the injunction. The pre-production work on the Soorarai Pottru Hindi remake will resume soon. Sudha Kongara Prasad, who directed the original, will work on the Hindi remake as well.
