Directed by Rahil Anil Barve, Tumbbad performed well at the Box Office and was critically acclaimed as well. The film revolves around a family in rural Maharashtra who builds a shrine for the God Hastar, an evil presence never to worship. However, the monster, known to have wealth which entices the family. The story then shows the consequences of the family’s greed and what happens when they try to get all of the monster’s wealth.
The movie starred Sohum Shah as Vinayak Rao (the father) and Mohammad Samad played Panduran (his son). Mohammad Samad received fame for his acting but not as much as deserved.
Rahil Anil Barve posted on twitter saying, "please share this to all.he did two fantastic roles in tumbbad,-pandurang and daadi. still no one knows. Let's Hear It for the Boy." (sic) Needless to say, people are now in awe of the actor. To know that he also played the monster grandmother locked up in the chambers is a shocking revelation for many.
Sohum Shah, actor, and producer of the film revealed as quoted by Mid-day, “We want to make a prequel or sequel of Tumbbad, but we haven't cracked the story yet. We always wanted to make it as a franchise."
