Unni Mukundan Hits Out At Those Accusing Him Of Right-Wing Bias

Unni Mukundan captured the hearts of Malayalees as Mallusingh and Masillaliyan. He is a much-discussed personality in the cinema and social arena. He was perhaps discussed more for his political views than for his acting. Mepadiyaan, a film starring and produced by Unni Mukundan, also led to political discussions. The most discussed was the use of Seva Bharati's ambulance in the film without a mask. It was also criticized that such scenes were included in the film to spread clear political views. Now the actor is openly talking about his politics. The actor was speaking in an interview on the occasion of the promotion of Shafiq's second film, produced by Unni Mukundan.

These are the things said by those who have not seen the movie. Those who have seen the movie will not even have a thought like this. Because there is no such element in that film. But the Seva Bharati movement cannot be denied. Seva Bharati is a social service movement in Kerala. They are the ones who gave me an ambulance for free during the shooting. The shooting took place during COVID. They said they got a private ambulance that day, but they will take the car if there is an emergency. I cannot shoot with such a strain for ten to twelve days.

I did not hire an ambulance and put a Sevabharati sticker on it. If I did, it would be on my agenda. If a movement gives us their product, we should include a thank-you card. I never wanted to make a political statement by driving that car. It is wrong to go into someone else's privacy and ask why they are doing this. So many actors are going to Sabarimala and going for Hajj. It is not a controversy; it is not a discussion. It is a problem if I wear black. Selected people made it news, and people who didn't watch the movie blew it. As far as I am concerned, my film is successful. Meppadiyan is a movie that shows that the life of a common man is thrilling without any criminal activities.

I don't like saying my name in a communal way. If I want to make a political statement, is it enough to make a Facebook post? Want to see a movie? Even if I am pro-BJP, I have nationalist values. I will not support anything against the country. These are my politics. At the end of thirty years, everyone has a political outlook. Young people should have such an outlook. We are voting for the next generation, not the next five years. Everyone, including me, is politically charged. How many actors go public for election campaigns? There has been nothing like that from my side.

If someone sees it as a political statement wishing the Prime Minister of India on his birthday, I will understand that it is lacking in him. I am only here to make good films. I came here wanting to see the movie. It's my life. "There are no hidden agendas," Unni Mukundan said.
