Vidya Balan Recalls She 'Lost Faith In Herself' After Being Called A Jinx

Popular actress Vidya Balan has had a remarkable career in the entertainment industry. Balan has established herself as one of the most accomplished and varied actors in the business, beginning with her portrayal in the 2005 film Parineeta and continuing with more recent appearances in Sherni and Jalsa. She was, however, once referred to as a "jinx," and the actress recently shared this.

For the uninitiated, Vidya was conversing with writer Faye Dsouza about her journey. Vidya mentioned during the conversation that she believes her mother may have had a desire of being an actress and passed that dream on to her. She continued by saying that Vidya, then eight years old, was mesmerized by Madhuri's performance when Tezaab was launched and she witnessed her dancing to "Ek Do Teen."

The actress recalled doing TV show auditions while in college and remarked, “However, the first show that I was signed for never worked out. That’s when I got Hum Paanch. My parents were okay as they felt that TV was a safer option, and the show was a comedy and a clean family watch.”

She continued, “In retrospect, I feel everything just worked out. After quitting the show, I started doing ad films, and that worked in my favour. I think if I hadn’t left the TV, I wouldn’t be doing other things.”

She went on to say that she had been promised a role in a Malayalam film alongside Mohanlal. But the project was cancelled before it could be completed. She had also been formally sought for several other projects. But once the movie was canceled, she was declared "jinxed," which caused her to lose out on future chances.

According to the Bool Bhulaiyaa actress, “They did not realize that the industry was going through a tough time. I was called jinxed, and because of that, I lost faith in myself. It was a tough time and I faced a lot of rejections. However, since I was still doing ads then, I met Pradeep Sarkar, and the first day he told me I will make a film with you. So there was no question of choosing Parineeta, the film chose me.”
