Karthi has not one, but three movies coming out this year: Viruman, Sardar, and Ponniyin Selvan 1. He claims that having a release every three months feels like semester exams. On August 12, his forthcoming film Viruman will be released in theatres.
In response to the allegations that director Muthaiya's films have been known and criticized for exalting caste pride, Karthi said that 'Viruman' is not a casteist film. Karthi said, "All I can say is that Viruman is not a casteist film. Even with Komban, there was a lot of criticism and a court case stalling the film. However, the same people, who had issues with Komban, loved it when they saw the film. If a filmmaker wants to make a movie about a temple, it is termed casteism. Then no one can make films about any culture. Even in Viruman, there is a festival song about the village’s God. One can only make films about his culture."
The censor board gave the movie "Viruman" the U/A certification, clearing the way for its wide release this Friday, August 12. The team has invested a lot of time and effort in the movie's advertising, and after the release of an intriguing trailer, the movie generated some positive anticipation.
The male lead is played by Karthi, and the female lead is played by Aditi Shankar, a debutante. The film is set in Madurai and features supporting performances by Prakash Raj, Saranya Ponvannan, Ilavarasu, Soori, RK Suresh, Manoj Bharathiraja, and Myna Nandhini.
Produced by Jyothika and Suriya under the banner of 2D Entertainment, the movie is written and directed by M. Muthaiah. When he learns that his father, Muniyandi, is to blame for his mother's suicide, the titular rural boy in Viruman decides to leave his home. Father-son rivalry serves as the movie's main topic.
