Director Ponram is known for making films like Varuthapadadha Valibar Sangam and Rajini Murugan with Sivakarthikeyan. The director's latest film, MGR Magan, was released directly on Disney + Hotstar on November 4, on the occasion of Diwali. The film features Sasikumar and Sathyaraj in lead roles. MGR Magan was supposed to release in theatres. But, the makers decided to go the OTT way due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. During the promotions of MGR Magan, director Ponram revealed that he had made a film for Navarasa. Later, he was replaced by director Priyadarshan in the nine-film anthology.
According to Ponram, he was asked to do a film with the theme Navarasa. His film titled Town Bus featured Gautham Karthik and Robo Shankar. However, the film never made it to the final cut. When he asked Mani Ratnam about the film's release, Mani Ratnam, one of the producers of Navarasa, said that there was a glitch in the audio of Town Bus, which was why it was ignored. Ponram is upset and his agreement doesn't allow him to sell the film to another OTT platform. Ponram expressed his disappointment due to the same.
