Yami Gautam received the title of Most Unconventional and Stylish actress by Lokmat Magazine. Her roles in "Uri" and "Bala" were considered for this award. Both movies came out in 2019 and were extremely well received commercially.
Lokmat, a Mumbai based Marathi language magazine, is widely read in Maharashtra and Goa. As such, its annual style awards garner much attention in regional circles. Their awarding of Yami Gautam is significant because it signals the actress's drift away from glamorous roles. In "Uri", she played a small part as the nurse of the protagonist's mother; in "Bala" she essayed the role of a small-town girl from UP.
The award implies something of a comeback for the actress in 2019. Her only Hindi film of 2018, "Batti Gul Meter Chalu" received mixed reviews from critics and poor commercial success. It was widely considered that she was outshone by her co-star, Shahid Kapoor. "Uri" and "Bala", however, allowed her to display her abilities in spite of relatively small roles - and Lokmat's decision seems to indicate a wider recognition of her.
