12 student suicides in 3 days: Is our system not ready for failures?
Yes, neither our system nor the parents are ready to accept that failures are equally important. The pressure of having a successful life is taking the lives of many Indians right from student life. Education institutes are also straining the students in the name of marks and examinations. After so much pressure from preparation and writing exams, students are not being prepared to take failures leaving the students with no other option but to take their lives.
Last week, in Telangana, four intermediate students committed students over being upset about their poor performance in the tests. The incidents were reported from Vanasthalipuram, Medipally, Jagadgirigutta, and Kukatpally. Katraj Sai Kumar, A Vandana, Srinitya, and D. Varsham, all are from intermediate who didn’t score well in their academics. Nagender is another student who took his life after the results came out. He hanged himself to death.
TDP MP CM Ramesh's nephew too committed suicide by jumping off from his 6 floored apartment after failing in the Math subject. On the whole, a total of 12 students killed themselves within a span of three days in Telangana and this is a thing to worry.
The government of Telangana is claiming that they are conducting various awareness and counselling programs regardless of which the students are taking the drastic step. TRS leader Harish Rao took to his Twitter handle to address the same by appealing to inter students to not commit suicide. He also requested the parents and teachers not to pressuring their kids.
