The Krishna District Police and the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) seized 14,238 bottles of liquor in a joint operation. As per the Andhra Pradesh Excise (Amendment) Act, the police destroyed the liquor bottles worth Rs 75 lakhs.
The officers involved in the destruction include Eluru Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police K.V. Mohan Rao, SEB Director P.H.D. Ramakrishna, Superintendent of Police M. Ravindranath Babu, SEB Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vakul Jindal and some others.
"We destroyed the liquor as per the AP Excise (Amendment) Act, issued on July 2. The district SP, SEB officials, Excise Deputy Commissioner, who are the district executive magistrate rank officers can destroy the seized stocks, revealed Mr Ravindranath.
The 14238 bottles came from 312 cases of seizure over the last few days, added Mr Ramakrishna. He also praised the SEB ASP team and his team for the feat.
Instructions have been given to step up vigil on liquor on sand smuggling on the Andhra Pradesh-Telangana borders. The stocks were seized under 10 police stations limits, particularly on the State borders, said Mr Mohan Rao.
Mr Jindal revealed the details about seized bottles. The contraband included bottles of some local liquor brands and Non-Duty Paid liquor smuggled from neighbouring states. The police will submit a detailed report on the destroyed stocks to the court, the officials added.
"For the first time in the State, we destroyed the liquor stocks after AP Excise Act was amended. More raids will be conducted on ID liquor manufacturing units and illegal transportation of sand and liquor, Mr Ravindranath concluded.
