Chandigarh: Today is the 90th birthday of the Indian Air Force, the pride of the country. During the celebrations held in Chandigarh, the Air Force Chief announced that 3,000 Agnivirs will be inducted into the force this year. The Air Force Day programmes began with the declaration of "going for the new era, modernising for the future."
Air Chief Marshal VR Choudhary announced today that Air Force Day programmes will be held in various parts of the country in the coming days. Instead of the usual venue, the Hindon Air Base in Ghaziabad, the events will be held at the Sukhna Air Base in Chandigarh outside Delhi. Chief of the Air Force, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhary, took the salute at the parade. The new combat uniform of the Air Force released at the ceremony. The new uniform is grey. At present, this uniform will use for ground duty.
The Air Force Chief said that the government has approved a new arms division under the Air Force. He added that three thousand men will be appointed to the force this year, and from next year, women will also be a part of the force.
The Air Force, which is the fourth largest air force in the world, is ready to face challenges, including in the border areas. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the programmes as part of Air Day in Chandigarh. As part of the celebrations, the new compact uniform of the Air Force was also released today.
VR Chaudhary added that 3,000 firemen will be inducted into the Air Force for initial training from December 2022. He said that women firefighters will be included in the new scheme starting in 2023, and infrastructure is being prepared for this.
President Draupadi Murmu and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will attend the Air Show at Sukhna Lake in the evening as part of Air Force Day celebrations. Around 80 military planes and helicopters participated in the Air Show as part of Air Force Day.
