The PM Narendra Modi visited Arun Jaitley's residence this evening to pay his condolences, three days after the death of the former union minister at Delhi's AIIMS. Prime Minister Modi was on a three-nation trip to France-UAE-Bahrain when he got the news and was allegedly requested not to shorten his trip as he spoke to the family of Mr Jaitley to convey his condolences. The funeral of Mr Jaitley occurred on Sunday. PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah toured the residence of Mr Jaitley in South Delhi this morning and met the spouse and kids of the veteran leader.
In a sequence of tweets, the PM Modi recalled his old-time friend and colleague Mr Jaitley as "a raging student leader" who was "in the heart of defending our country" during the Emergency period.
PM Modi tweeted that there was an emotional bond between BJP and Arun Jaitley Ji. He was at the leading edge of defending our democracy as a flaming student leader during the urgent situation. He has become a much-liked face of our Party, which could express the Party programs and philosophy to a broad range of culture.
PM Modi had become sentimental during his oration at an event in Bahrain and said he couldn't believe he'd been so far away as his friend Arun had passed.
Mr Jaitley, the BJP's chief fixer, is the governing party's second high-profile loss after Sushma Swaraj, who passed away on August 6.
