The MSK Prasad-led selection committee decided to drop the out-of-form KL Rahul for the three Tests against South Africa at home while indicating that Rohit Sharma could be the new opener in whites.
Team India chief selector MSK Prasad has said that Rohit Sharma has been selected in India's squad for the Test series against South Africa as an opener. "He will open in the three matches and also for the Board President's XI. We want to give him an opportunity to open the innings in Tests," Prasad added.
Meanwhile, India’s regular test opener, KL Rahul was axed for his consistent failures. Selection team thought that he was given enough chances and its time for a new one to prove his worth. Earlier, Rohit found support from a number of former cricketers who believe that he can succeed as an opener in Test cricket.
The other thing to be noticed is, the exciting talent, U-19 World Cup star Shubman Gill has also been included for the series against South Africa. The three-match Test series against South Africa will begin from October 2.
