Agra: The discussion held in Agra Municipal Corporation on the demand to change the name of the Taj Mahal failed. A heated argument took place between the two factions in the Municipal Corporation meeting. The House then adjourned indefinitely.
In the municipal corporation meeting, the BJP demanded that the name of Taj Mahal be changed to Tejo Mahalaya. This demand was put forward by BJP Councilor Sobharam Rathore. Shobha is a councillor from Tajganj Ward.
How the mausoleum is called "mahal" The place where the Taj Mahal stands was the domain of Raja Jai Singh. The BJP member also raised arguments that the name of Emperor Shah Jahan's wife has been wrongly recorded in history.
They argued that her name was Arjumand Bano and not Mumtaz. Shobha argued that the Taj Mahal was originally a Hindu temple and was encroached upon by the Mughal authorities, as historian P. N. Ock has said in his book. This is what later became a heated argument.
Agra Mayor Naveen Jain dismissed the demand. BSP Congress councillors strongly opposed this move. Their argument was that the High Court and the Supreme Court had already rejected the petition.
But Mayor Naveen Jain adjourned the municipal corporation meeting indefinitely after the uproar and sloganeering by the corporation members. At the same time, various Hindutva groups raised slogans outside the Municipal Corporation yoga hall, raising the issue.
At the same time, senior BJP member Anurag Chaturvedi told IANS that the municipal council should not consider the name change. He says that the Taj Mahal belongs to the ASI, so only the central government can take a decision on the name change.
In May this year, the Allahabad High Court heard a petition claiming that the Taj Mahal temple was demolished and rebuilt. The court rejected this petition, saying that the court should not be mocked.
