CM Palaniswami and opposition leader join the verbal war on Chidambaram
Within days of the end of the Vaio-Congress riots over Kashmir, Chief Minister K Palaniswami found himself in the thick of a political slugfest after he slighted senior Congresspeople leader and former Union finance minister P Chidambaram.
While the strong reaction is evoked form the State unit of the Congress, the CM’s office was careful to exclude it from the copies of the transcript of Palaniswami’s interaction with reports that were circulated to the media.
CM said Chidambaram “not bringing any schemes to Tamil Nadu”, CM also said “he didn't bring any new schemes to Tamil Nadu when he was serving as finance minister during the Congress regime,” he said. “Chidambaram has done little for Tamil Nadu, he is a selfish man,” CM said.
Congress MP of Sivaganga Karti Chidambaram said, “EPS became the Chief Minister due to a historic blunder. There is no need to dwelve further into his personal attack.”
While DMK also said, “Chief Minister had termed my visit to flood-affected areas in Nilgris as a gimmick, for publicity. It will not take long for me to question CM’s proposed visit to the US and Landon, also for publicity. But, I do not wish to stoop to his level and engage in such debates.”
TNCC president K S Alagiri said, “From enabling education to all by lying education cess and taking noon meal scheme across the country, to ensuring public sector banks provide farm loans and education loans, Chidambaram has done a lot for the country and its people. He also took the country’s GDP growth higher and helped it sustain above 9% for three consecutive years between 2004 and 2009,” he said.
Alagiri asked CM “Is this long list enough to show the achievements of Chidambaram,” while Chidambaram has done so much for the country, an accidental CM, who crawled before someone to get the post, has no locus stand to question him.”
