Controversy over Smriti’s qualification: Is it a set back to BJP?
Smriti Irani has recently hit the headlines yet again with the election affidavit filed to contest from Amethi Constituency. The minister declared to the Election Commission that her three-year degree course was not completed which stood as the subject to controversies. The actor-turned-politician submitted different qualification details ever since her political entry.
In 2004 Affidavit, Smriti Irani filed her nomination from Chandni Chowk in Delhi in which she claimed to have done BA in 1996 from Delhi University. While in the Affidavit submitted in 2014, for Amethi Lok Sabha seat, the TV Actress claimed to be a Bachelor Of Arts graduate and in the recent one, the Union Minister mentioned B.Com Part 1 from Delhi University in 1994. However, the university which later clarified that she was never their student.
Her educational qualification has become a big issue since her appointment. This shifting story of education has not only become a headache to Smriti but also has pushed the BJP party in the soup. Despite the trust PM Narendra Modi bestowed on Smriti for putting up a spirited fight against Rahul Gandhi in Amethi during 2014 Polls, the actress continued to make headlines for all the wrong reasons frequently.
This has led the Opposition party with a weapon to allege the ruling party and BJP Leaders have no clue how to respond in this situation as the Union Minister hasn't given them scope to defend. However, the saffron party is yet to give an official statement upon this issue.
