Exclusive: Team India is too desperate to find the guy who fills MSD’s big boots

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has become the face of Team India for a decade. With the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Rah Sharma scoring tons of runs ahead of him, Dhoni never lost his charm in his entire career due to his game awareness and the ability to withstand deadly pressure.

Now, with this legendary cricketer is on the verge of his retirement, Team India not only need a capable wicket-keeper but also a strong finisher to replace him. Let us read your mind. KL RAHUL, DINESH KARTHIK, RISHABH PANT, KEDAR JADHAV. Well, good luck to you. BCCI tried every possible candidate but none of them seemed like a long-term option.

In test cricket, Saha is great with his incredible keeping skills but he is barely tested in SENA countries. Don’t forget Rishabh Pant’s resistance in overseas was good but overshadowed by the pale performances of the other batsman and brilliant performances of the quickies.

Coming to limited-overs, Indian top-three comprises the majority of runs giving no scope for the middle order to show their skills. But. When it’s up to the middle they surrender like the unarmed soldiers. This has been the case every time Dhoni rested.

Hence, it is quite evident that India is looking for the person who marks his presence in the latter part of the innings and to finish things off with low experienced co-batters. Now, with Sanju Samson ready to join the squad, all eyes turned on to him.

The fact is, it takes too long to find a player with Dhoni’s potential or to shape one to fill his boots but India hasn’t had that much of time given the performance in the CWC 2019 Semi-Finals. So, it is not 'Better Late than Never' but is the best thing to have happened just now.
