Irrigation got Lion’s Share – Telangana Budget
Telangana Chief Minister KCR as Finance Minister presented his first budget, though an interim one, keeping the focus firmly on farmers and gave priority to Irrigation and Agriculture. Telangana’s Vote-on-Account budget for 2019-20 with a total size of Rs 1,82,017 crore.
The irrigation sector got Lion’s Share of Rs 22,500 Cr. followed by agriculture Rs21,000 Cr. For the development of SC communities, TRS government earmarked Rs 16,580 Cr. and for the ST communities Rs 9,780 Cr. The minorities got Rs 2004 Cr. While the figures presented are for the year, the appropriation bill will be for the first six months.
As promised in the election campaign, KCR has hiked the Rythu Bandhu grant to Rs 10,000 from Rs 8,000 to farmers on every acre they own. This will be in two tranches of Rs5000 each ahead of the Kharif and Rabi seasons. He allocated Rs12000 crore for the scheme in the budget.
KCR said, “We chose to present a Vote-on-Account budget for 2019-20 as the centre also came out with the Vote-on-account budget. We will present full-fledged one after studying central priorities, getting clarity on likely central fund flows.”
