Lower turnout in Telangana Lok Sabha polls: ’Mission 16’ missed its target?
Despite the violent incidents, deaths of 3 activists and glitches with EVMs, Andhra Pradesh has recorded 76.69 percent for the first time. For 175 assembly constituencies and 25 Parliamentary seats, AP has received tremendous response from the youth and women in specific. On the hand, 63 percent polling was recorded in Telangana which went voting for 16 Lok Sabha seats.
This is apparently less when compared to the previous elections which have now become a major concern for the TRS cadre. To everyone’s surprise, three polling booths in Hyderabad limits has registered less than 40 percent of polling. KCR is said to set "Mission 16" target for MLAs and party leaders which involves sweeping all the 16 Lok Sabha seats. But the polling percentage had pushed the Pink Party into the ambiguity of winning at least 10 seats.
Few political analysts have opined that this decrease in polling percentage would benefit Congress and BJP in winning five to six seats. Oppositions in Telangana has taken this opportunity to lash out the dictatorial and family rule of KCR.
