The two-month-old baby girl who was abducted two days ago from South Mumbai has been rescued by the Mumbai Police. A senior official was informed that the couple who kidnapped the child have been arrested.
The accused wanted to sell the child, and police suspect the couple may be involved in more child abduction cases. A 30-year-old woman living on Footpath in South Mumbai's LT Marg area approached the police on Tuesday night, saying her 71-day-old daughter was missing.
The Azad Maidan police registered a case under Indian Penal Code 363 (kidnapping) and formed eight teams to trace the child. From this, the investigation team found the footage of a 46-year-old man carrying a baby in the CCTV footage of the South Mumbai and Wadala areas.
The police found out that his name is Hanif Sheikh. Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar told reporters that the police later found him and rescued the child. The police arrested him and his wife. Police said the couple planned to sell the child.
