Congress Party or NCP leader Sharad Pawar said he couldn't say if the 2005 move by former Shiv Sena leader Narayan Rane to join Congress was just a mistake or a blunder. He spoke at Friday's launch of Mr Rane's Mumbai autobiography.
Mr Pawar said that there were two choices for Narayan Rane-either to join the NCP or Congress. He also said that he chose Congress. He could not say it was a mistake or a mistake. The NCP leader said he told Mr Rane that the Congress then granted the position of chief minister that the great old party was not working on the assurances grounds.
He also said that Congress doesn't work like that. Since he spent most of his life there, he understand. Narayan Rane, who has sources of power in the Maharashtra area of Konkan, was selected as chief minister by Bal Thackeray when he chose to ban the brilliant Manohar Joshi before the 1999 elections to the assembly.
After voicing disappointment over Uddhav Thackeray achieving popularity in the party, Mr Rane was removed by Bal Thackeray.
He also said that they recognized that this guy was distinct when he put forward any his opinions in the conferences of the cabinet. They came near when they both became opposition parties.
Mr Gadkari said that he had instructed Mr Rane not to join the Congress. He also said that Rane has tears in his eyes and said he had no choice.
