Nirav Modi taken into custody by London police
Nirav Modi, well-known celebrity jeweler was arrested in London by the local police calling it an end to a year-long hunt in various countries. Apparently, he was picked up yesterday from a metro station Holborn, central London, as reported by the officers in the Enforcement Directorate. According to the reports, the Westminster court has issued an arrest warrant against him last week and will be produced before the court.
It is a known fact that well-established businessmen would get bail hours after they got arrested. But to everyone's surprise, Metropolitan Magistrate's court has turned down the bail bond as Nirav had offered 500,000 pounds. He will now be in jail till March 29, when the next hearing will take place.
Nirav Modi who was spotted walking around in an expensive ostrich-hide jacket by the local journalists lately. He refused to respond to react on PNB scandal with a simple 'No Comments' for every question.
The 48-year-old billionaire had absconded the country last year with his relative Mehul Choksi, weeks before the detection of the Rs. 13,000-crore Punjab National Bank scam. Nirav Modi was believed to be living at a 33-storey Centre Point Apartment complex in West End, the post theatre district in London.
