Sonia and Rahul Gandhi not present at Pranab Mukherjee's Bharat Ratna event
Pranab Mukherjee received Bharat Ratna award from his successor Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday. Many dignities like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were present at that event.
The former president of Congress “Rahul Gandhi” and the UPA chairperson “Sonia Gandhi” were not present at that ceremony. The former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was also not seen in the event.
It was discovered that Rahul Gandhi got an invitation from Rashtrapati Bhavan for the function. It was not understood why he was absent at the event. Other members from opposition party like Anand Sharma, Shashi Tharoor, Ahmed Patel, Sushmita Dev, Bhupender Singh Hooda, RPN Singh and Janardan Dwivediand was present at that important event.
Rahul Gandhi's government appearances have diminished considerably since he announced his choice to leave the post of president of Congress following the dismal performance of his party in the latest Lok Sabha elections, when Congress managed to win only 52 seats as compared to the 303 BJP.
The decision by Pranab Mukherjee to attend a meeting of the BJP's ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Nagpur on June 2018 was allegedly frowned upon by the management of Congress.
Party Representatives CK Jaffer Sharif and Hanumanthappa even voiced "shock and dismay" at the decision of the former president, stating that attending such an event before the elections was "inappropriate to an individual with a secular picture."
