The constituency of Mandya for confident had the majority cameras covering the much-hyped elections as Sumalatha Ambareesh, wife of Ex-minister and Congress leader Late MH Ambareesh locked horns with Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of CM H D K.
 
The competition between the two and the publicity it made even at the National level has forced many to surprise if “Mandya is India”.
 
Sumalatha has won the 5,25,865 votes on Nikhil Kumaraswamy, who gain 4,49,435 votes.
 
MH Ambareesh, who was always talked to as “Mandya Gandu” (Man from Mandya) has a more fan following in the district, not only as of his on-screen celebrity but also as of the humane works the actor has agreed for the people of Mandya during his lifetime. It so appears that her success was a gift to Ambareesh by the people of the constituency. Responding to her resounding win, Sumalatha said that this is her greatest achievement in life. "I am glad that I made the choice to contest from Mandya. I thank the people of Mandya and the state for my victory. The people of Mandya have a lot of self-respect and that is why they have chosen me over the others," she stated.
