JDS state unit president H Vishwanath has stirred a possible storm by announcing that party supremo, former prime minister H D Devegowda are the party's Prime Ministerial candidate. This statement makes it seem like the JDS is ready to disown AICC president Rahul Gandhi because of the alliance PM candidate if a fractured finding emerges within the Lok Sabha elections.
It can be recalled that when the Congress and JDS formed the coalition government within the 2018 Karnataka legislative assembly elections, they set to form a pre-poll alliance for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. They even decided to create Rahul Gandhi the face of the alliance and also the Prime Ministerial candidate.
Speaking to reporters in Tumakuru, Vishwanath expressed that if a coalition government involves power at the center, they are able to elect Gowda because of the Prime Minister of the country. "Gowda has a real chance to become PM once more," he said.
