XXX Uncensored controversy: Filmmakers should obtain NOC from Ministry of Defence introduces on army content

On Saturday, the Ministry of Defence wrote a letter to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), making it mandatory that filmmakers and production houses should first obtain a NOC for any kind of series and movies made on the Indian army.

In the letter, the ministry has stated that there are movies and web series which are distorting the image of the Indian Army. It reads, “It has been brought to the notice of this Ministry that some production houses. Making films on Army theme are using contents which are distorting the image of the Indian Army….” They further added, “Therefore, the producers of movies/web series etc based on Army theme may be advised to obtain the NOC from Ministry of Defence before the release of any movie' documentary on Army theme in the public domain.” Also, it is advised that it’s better to prevent that any scene which distorts or hurts the sentiment, and image of the Defence Forces. It is important to recall that the Defence Ministry has received a lot of complaints about the content and some objectionable scenes in web series like Code M on Zee5 and season 2 of XXX Uncensored on ALT Balaji. The ex-servicemen associations took to the notice of the Ministry that the content in the series is tarnishing the image of the Indian army and it has to be stopped. In March 2020, The Government of India had given 100 days to the OTT platform to set up an adjudicatory body urging the platforms to finalise a code of conduct.
