Ponniyin Selvan 2 Day 5 Box Office Collection: Mani Ratnam's Aishwarya Movie Sees A Drop; Earns More Over Rs. 230 Crores Globally

Ponniyin Selvan 2 (PS2), the crowning achievement of director Mani Ratnam, had a significant decline at the box office on Tuesday, according to trade sources. PS2 made over Rs. 200 crores on its four-day opening weekend. The movie made about Rs. 230 crores at the end of its fifth day in theatres around the world.

The second part of the Ponniyin Selvan series, which is based on Kalki's well-known novel of the same name, is available now. After failing twice in the past, Mani Ratnam finally succeeded in finishing the movie this time.

According to trade expert Trinath, Ponniyin Selvan 2 had a significant decline on Tuesday throughout all regions. The movie will, however, have a lengthy, uninterrupted run as there won't be any significant Tamil releases for a few weeks, he said.

Trinath said, “The film had a terrific opening and managed to breach the ₹200 crore club in just four days. However, the film did witness a major drop at the box office in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday vis-à-vis Monday, which was a public holiday (Labour Day). After Tuesday, the global box office earnings are over ₹230 crores approximately”.

He continued by saying that since there are no significant releases (in Tamil) for the upcoming few weeks, the movie will have a lengthy run in Tamil Nadu. Trinath had also suggested that PS2 would not perform as well financially as the first film. However, since the PS1 itself, which was released in September 2022, generated significant profits for the creators, any money they make from PS2 will be a bonus.

Both Hindi and Telugu versions of PS2 were dubbed and released. PS2, in contrast to the first part, has performed admirably in Telugu states. Aishwarya Rai made her return to Tamil cinema with this movie after a ten-year absence. Nandini and her mute mother Mandakini Devi were two characters that Aishwarya performed.

Over Rs. 500 crores were made at the box office worldwide during the theatrical run of the franchise's first film. After exceeding Kamal Haasan's Vikram's lifetime revenue of Rs. 183 crores in Tamil Nadu, PS1 went on to become the highest-grossing Tamil movie of all time in the state.
