The Kerala Story's First Day At The Box Office Brought In Over Rs. 8 Crores Amidst Controversy

The Kerala Story, which ended up entangled in controversy, has brought in more than Rs. 8 crore domestically. Sudipto Sen wrote and directed the movie that opened in theatres on Friday. Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, and Sonia Balani play the main characters in The Kerala Story.

The Kerala Story, according to its creators, reveals the circumstances surrounding the 32,000 or so Kerala women who go missing before being converted and sent on terror missions in India and the world. Sunshine Pictures Private Limited has backed The Kerala Story. Vipul Amrutlal Shah, who founded it and is also the producer, creative director, and co-writer of the movie.

Taran Adarsh, a movie critic, tweeted on Saturday,

The movie's trailer drew criticism because it implied that 32,000 Kerala state-born females vanished and eventually joined the terrorist organization ISIS. The Kerala Story came up for debate due to the overblown numbers in the movie's trailer. On Friday, the Kerala High Court noted that the film's producers had also published a disclaimer. The disclaimer makes it clear that the movie is a dramatized and fictionalized account of the events. Additionally, it notes that the movie makes no claims regarding historical reality or accuracy.

The Kerala Story was recently discussed by Sudipto at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). He stated, "People should watch it, if you like it, it will be the biggest prize for me. I take my film to Vipul (producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah). He liked the story. He was in tears. Then we decided to make the film and it's been a long seven-year journey after which we finally managed to complete the film", according to news agency ANI.
