The weekend box office performance of Varisu in India was great. Over the course of its five-day extended weekend, the Vijay-starring film brought in around Rs. 102 crores in India. The movie got off to a strong start on Wednesday, experienced a little decrease in the days leading up to the holidays, but picked back up on Saturday, with Saturday and Sunday both exceeding Rs. 20 crores in daily collections. The Telugu version of the movie, which was postponed and released on Saturday, also helped the box office results.
On Sunday, the movie made roughly Rs. 14.50 crores in Tamil Nadu, bringing its five-day total to Rs. 64.50 crores. With the exception of the early morning shows, which account for large numbers on opening day, yesterday was essentially similar to the first day. After matinee showings, the movie had reached its maximum attendance across the state. To accommodate the excessive demand, additional shows were added after midnight at various venues. The movie has an enormous advance for the following two days as well, with many theatres already sold out or almost sold out. The film should earn almost Rs. 90 crores in the state in 7 days if Monday's sales are anything like those of Sunday, and Tuesday should also stay in double digits.
Similar statistics were collected by the Telugu version on Sunday. It was the opening day in the Telugu states, and it also did well. Additionally, the holiday effect will continue for the following several days, which will help the movie earn close to Rs. 20 crores by Thursday.
With approximately Rs. 5 crores in total over the weekend, the Hindi dub of the movie has also made some money, particularly in the smaller cities in Central and Eastern India. The most recent Vijay movies were released in Hindi, however box office take was modest. Like Allu Arjun, Vijay is well known among the public in the Hindi belt and has a large satellite fan base thanks to the success of his films on television. Pushpa elevated Allu Arjun's degree of recognition, something Vijay has yet to achieve but could do with his upcoming film, an expensive actioner from director Lokesh.
