The Coronavirus Pandemic has affected film industries around the world. Almost all film productions have halted. Now with the lockdown in place, there is no assurance about when the film shoots will re-start. This has had a huge impact on the daily wage workers, as many of them have lost their jobs with no prior intimation. The Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) has a total of 23 unions, belonging to different trades in the film and the television industries. It has around 25,000 members. The crisis has left around 25,000 workers without any source of income.
FEFSI head Selvamani had issued a press statement urging the actors and actresses to come forward and help the federation amidst the Coronavirus Crisis. In the statement, Selvamani requested the stars of the industry to help their colleagues in need.
Recently, actors Suriya
and Karthi Prakash Raj
donated 10 lakh rupees to the Union. Actors such as Roshan and Manobala have also donated funds to the FEFSI.
Many actors of the Kollywood are lending a helping hand. Actor Sivakarthikeyan donated a sum of 10 lakhs to the union. The actor met the president of FEFSI Selvamani on Monday and handed over the check. Actor Vijay Sethupathi has decided to contribute 10 lakhs to the cause. Superstar Rajinikanth
has reportedly decided to donate 25% of the sum stated by the FEFSI head. The union head had announced that they will require a sum of 2 crores to help the workers. The actor has agreed to donate a sum of 50 lakhs. Actor Prakash Raj has contributes 150 bags of rice to help feed the families of the daily wage workers.
