Alka Yagnik, the Indian playback singer, has made history by being named the most streamed artist of 2022 by the Guinness Book of World Records. She left behind big names such as Drake, Beyonce, BTS, and Taylor Swift. According to a report, Yagnik's songs were streamed 15.3 billion times. They were averaging 42 million streams per day. She is making it to the Guinness Book of World Records for the third year in a row.
Yagnik revealed that she had no idea who BTS was until her daughter Syesha Kapoor told her about them after the announcement was made. Yagnik said, "I had no clue about BTS. My daughter told me about global pop icons. She also explained what it meant to leave them behind in numbers." Yagnik's daughter was shocked when she found out that her mother was not familiar with BTS. This was despite the fact that she was ahead of them in the streaming numbers. Yagnik's daughter said, "Ma, you are a wonder!".
BTS made it to the top 10 with 7.95 billion streams, while Taylor Swift featured in the 26th spot with 4.33 billion streams. Drake was at the 50th spot with 2.9 billion streams. Bad Bunny was second on the list with 14.7 billion streams. The other three artists in the top five were all Indian singers: Udit Narayan with 10.8 billion streams, Arijit Singh with 10.7 billion streams, and Kumar Sanu with 9.09 billion streams.
Yagnik has been a popular playback singer in Bollywood since the 1980s and has won several awards for her work. She has been featured on the Guinness Book of World Records list in the past two years as well, with 17 billion streams in 2021 and 16.6 billion streams in 2020. Despite her massive achievement, Yagnik remained humble and not too excited about it.
