The trend of biographical dramas is still continuing in India. From the past few years, we have been seeing a lot of biopics in Indian cinema. Most of them proved to be successful at the box office. Now, yet another movie is going to join that list. This is a biographical drama of popular wrestler Karnam Malleshwari. The film got announced a few days back. If the latest buzz is anything to go by, the makers are planning to rope in Bhumi Pednekar to play the lead role in it.
Initially, Nithya Menen got approached to play this role. However, Nitya declined the offer for the reasons best known to her. After that, the movie's team considered actresses like Taapsee Pannu and Rakul Preet Singh. Even that didn't work out. It seems that they are now holding talks with Bhumi. We hear that Bhumi will be the right option for the role as her physical features will also match with Malleshwari. Currently, the talks are going on. We may get an official confirmation once the Bala actress signs the dotted lines. If Bhumi accepts the offer, this will be her first pan-Indian movie.
This biopic is being directed by Sanjana Reddy of Rajugadu fame. Kona Venkat and MVV Satyanarayana are jointly bankrolling the project. On the other side, Bhumi was last seen in the film Bhoot: The Haunted Ship, which released earlier this year. She is currently acting in Durgavati, which is an official remake of the 2018 Telugu film Bhaagmathie.
