The COVID-19 pandemic has put the fate of all upcoming films in question. As of now, only a few films have confirmed that they will have a theatrical release for sure. Some others have already opted for an OTT release. A few other producers are yet to make a decision. One of the upcoming major releases is Kangana Ranaut starrer Thalaivi. From the past few days, it is being reported that the film will have a direct OTT release on both Amazon Prime Video and Netflix. On the other side, we are also hearing that it will have a theatrical release for sure. The fans are hoping to get clarity from makers.
A few Kollywood reports from the past few days, stated that Thalaivi will have a direct OTT release simultaneously on both Amazon Prime Video and Netflix. It was also stated that the makers took this decision in order to make the film reach a wider range of audiences.
On the other side, the film's lead actress Kangana Ranaut stated that the digital rights got bagged by Amazon Prime Video (Tamil) and Netflix (Hindi) for a whopping price of Rs. 55 crores. She also added that the movie will have a theatrical release first, before the OTT release. Due to these contradicting statements, the audiences are getting confused over the film's release. We have to wait for a few more days to get clarity on this issue. Directed by AL Vijay, Thalaivi is a biopic of former actress and ex-Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Jayalalitha.
