Chennai High Court’s Verdict On Vijay’s Rolls Royce Case

Thalapathy Vijay's expensive car has been a hot topic for over a year as he fought the state government's entry tax, and we've seen several news reports about it before. The Chennai High Court has officially ended the matter, according to the most recent statement. The matter of actor Vijay's Rolls Royce car was heard today, and the judge ruled that no penalty should be levied on the car if he had paid the entire entry tax by January 2019. In addition, Judge Suresh Kumar concluded the case by declaring that paying entry tax for imported cars is necessary, and if the tax is not paid even after January 2019, a fine may be imposed.

The Tamil Nadu Commercial Tax Department has ordered Vijay to pay entrance tax on a luxury automobile worth Rs 63 lakh that he bought from the United States in 2005. Vijay filed a complaint in the High Court against the entry tax, and the court ruled that states have the jurisdiction to collect entry taxes. In September 2021, star Vijay paid an entry tax of 7 lakh 98 thousand 75 rupees. However, the Commercial Tax Department directed that 30 lakh 23 thousand 609 rupees be paid as a penalty for the interim period of non-payment of tax in December 2021.

As the actor was penalized for paying 400 percent of the penalty, Vijay claimed that the fine should only be computed at 2% each month from the time the car was imported, and he filed a complaint against the case in the Chennai High Court. However, the Chennai High Court just dissolved the case, and it appears that Vijay will not be penalized because he apparently paid the entry tax before the deadline.
