Jigarthanda, the tremendously successful film directed by Karthik Subbaraj, is getting a sequel. Today, the Petta director made the news while uploading a video commemorating the eight-year anniversary of Jigarthanda's premiere.
he posted on his social media handle while sharing the video, in which we get behind-the-scenes footage from the first film intercut with a Jigarthanda being made. The text "It's been eight years since you tasted Jigarthanda. Now it's time for...," pops up followed by a shot of another Jigarthanda being placed next to it, followed by another text "Penning up", implying the making of a sequel.
Jigarthanda's cast and crew have yet to be confirmed, and it remains suspense if some of the characters from the original will appear in this film.
Jigarthanda, Karthik's second film following the sleeper hit Pizza, was released on August 1, 2014, starring Siddharth, Bobby Simha, and Lakshmi Menon in prominent roles with Karunakaran and Guru Somasundaram portraying crucial supporting characters. Vijay Sethupathi, who previously appeared in Pizza, makes a cameo appearance in the film. The film's music was composed by Santhosh Narayanan. Simha later won the National Award for Best Supporting Actor for portraying mobster Assault Sethu.
