Malayalam actor Nikhila Vimal faced a huge cyber attack recently. This was for her remarks regarding cow slaughter in an interview given to a YouTube channel as part of the promotion of the movie Jo and Jo.
Nikhila's remark that there is no system in India or Kerala that says cows cannot be killed or used as the food was controversial. When a section criticized Nikhila through social media, many people came out in support of Nikhila.
In an interview given to Grihalakshmi, Nikhila Vimal talks about her view on the same. Nikhila Vimal said that such an answer came because of an unusual question. There was a lot of discussion regarding his remark. Nikhila Vimal said that having such discussions is good for a democratic society. She added that like everyone has their own politics, she also has politics.
“It is an interview that was held as part of the promotion of Jo and Jo. My answer is that the film should reach more people and I didn't expect it to go viral. Such an answer came because of an unusual question. I don't think the guy asked the question with a specific agenda. The only intention is to transform the program into an entertainment show for them. It may have been asked in advance.
It never seemed that the young man who did the interview was someone who was talking about certain politics. He asked a question to which I replied, nothing more important than that. There was a lot of discussion about it. I think it is good for a democratic society to have such discussions. Many people have commented on my social media profiles for and against me. But I did not reply to them as I had nothing else to respond to on the matter. Everyone has their own politics. I have my own. But when acting in a film, no politics is brought into it;” said Nikhila Vimal.
After the interview, Nikhila Vimal clarified that what she said about eating beef was her position and she stands by it. Nikhila had said that the cyber attacks that took place in its name were not noticed and such attacks were not ignored.
"Everybody has a point of view. Glad to hear it said out loud. I said it was my personal opinion. Everyone should be able to say it openly. I did not say there was a cyber attack. I came to know about this through the media. I don't care what anyone says. There are people from the film industry who have expressed their opinions in favor and against;” Nikhila said.
