I Don't Usually Re-Watch My Movies : Sudha Kongara

At the recently announced National Awards, Sudha Kongara’s Soorarai Pottru bagged five awards including the Best Feature Film, Best Actor (Suriya), Best Actress (Aparna Balamurali), Best Screenplay (Sudha Kongara and Shalini Usha Nair) and Best Background Score (GV Prakash). The director’s previous movie Irudhi Suttru, starring Madhavan and Ritika Singh, also got her Filmfare Awards, apart from a heap of other awards.

On a question about her growth, she replied, “My graph as a technician has to grow. Else, my existence in the industry is pretty pointless. But otherwise, I am still struggling, still fighting it out every day. When I look back at every work I have done, I am only seeing mistakes.”

She admits that she does not watch her movies after work. “I won't watch my own films again. Post edit, I lock and give away the first copy and don’t go back to watch it again. I had to watch Soorarai Pottru because I’m remaking it in Hindi. So for certain reasons, I had to re-watch it. But I haven’t seen Irudhi Suttru or Drohi in I don’t know how many years.”

Akshay Kumar is the main character in the Hindi version of Soorarai Pottru, which Sudha is currently working on. “The Hindi version will be very different, in terms of the situations that it will be set in, and even the actors.”, she tells. The next picture the director will produce with Suriya is anticipated to be a biopic.
